Gear cover

Hi There,

There were two ways the end gear cover was attached. On early models, the gear cover was jigged in place and babbit was poured around the pivoting pin. These usually have a thumb screw on the end gear cover bracket that is used to keep the cover from swinging.

The later models (I assume you have this type), the end gear cover pivot is an eccentric bolt. The cover is is aligned with the back end of the spindle using washers (for up-and-down) and turning the eccentric (for left-and-right for adjustments.

The eccentric is held on with two jam nuts on the bottom and a set screw in the bracket (to keep it from turning with the end gear cover).

I hope this helps. Good Lucl!
