Which grade carbide inserts?

I was always under the impression that carbide insert tooling needed more pressure and speed than could be reasonably expected from a 9" SB. Lately, I hear that there may be inserts that will work.

As local suppliers are limited around here, I have settled on 1/2" Kennametal tool holders (left, right, straight, boring) that I can get from Acklands-Grainger.

I generally turn harder steel. Not much mild, and never tool steel. Usually 1-2" round.

What would you recommend for Kennametal inserts? Shape? Grade? Numbers?

You may want to also take a look at Enco online http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INPDFF?PMPAGE=192&PMITEM=328-5575
Once you know the insert choice, they have a vast selection, an easy to use catalog and also a great insert type /grade info page. Free shipping and discount deals.
I have a 10" logan, I've machined tons of tough 4340 HT alloy with the
TNMG-431 inserts. I can "hog off" a lot of material with relatively slower speed and tool pressure with them. They hold up very well, and great for finish as well.
