I just got this yesterday for 600.00 with a bunch of tooling. 11"swing 4' bed catalog 84-A serial number on the bed is 45672. Casting date on the bed is 1929. It is my first lathe and seems to work, ways look good and only the compound has more backlash than I would like. My goal is to restore it and put a gear box on if possible since it did not come with more than 3 change gears. It does have a transmission on the lead screw to change directions. Here are a few pictures. I really just want to know what it is.
Thanks.

The countershaft pulley looks a lot like the early Atlas lathes.

Does it have flat ways?

Any serial number stamped on there? (usually on the tailstock end of the bed)

Looks like it has to use the gear box on the screw for a reverse as there isn't a normal one. I bet it was special made for a specific job in a factory. Cool though...Bob

From this pic it looks like a gear box could be mounted. Id like to know what I need to convert it other than the quick change box and correct lead screw.
