Live Center Question

I recently acquired a new old SB lathe. it came with a bunch of neglected accessories that I have been refurbing/cleaning as time permits mainly because I think its fun. Anyway, working on this live center made in Czech. I have the spindle removed but have been unable to figure how to remove the split collar to get at the bearing...maybe heating the outside? Any ideas?

You didn't get the 9a they auctioned off at Verina High School, did you?

Well, it's split, so obviously it is pressed in. To get it out, you're going to need a bearing puller, or a hook to work the collar out, a little at a time.

You don't want to heat the thing, because the bronze or brass collar will expand faster (and more)than the steel.
