My much anticipated 10K arrived this afternoon delivered by its owner, a grade 10-11 shop teacher.

Pics of course.

Scraping on the ways under the chuck.

Scraping on the cross slide.

Horizontal drive. 1/2 hp motor.

Belt cover.

Reversing switch.

Headstock.

Gear train.

Chuck.

Tailstock.

Gearbox.

Tooling

And the question is ? What does that bloody great hole in the end of the spindle measure ? Looks to be 1-3/8s + .IF so someone has put a Heavy 10 spindle in this lathe,which is great!

Interesting ! spindle OD is smaller than I would expect. Anyway lathe looks very nice,have fun.

Nice score, very light wear.
Be sure to flush all the gears- grease is a bad idea on lathe gears. Traps and holds swarf and accelerates wear.
Stick with recommended viscosity oils.

Thanks @tobnpr, I’m pretty darn stoked.
Definitely hear you on the grease.
I’m be cleaning the grease from all the gears and oiling with the proper oil.

looks good . I would putty knife scrape bare metal, pick chips and perhaps use a screw driver or small magnet to get the last chips. Then a nice oil wipe on all bare metal. Would not air blast or spray can clean anything. Rusted dials best served with fine but stiff back abrasive paper paper with first careful fine file nicks and bangs jut down to original surface. Be sure oil is getting to both sides of spindle.

Don't wire brush dials ..lines and numbers look nice and sharp edged so keep them that way.

Check the chuck jaw numbers to see they match body.
Might try a fine hone stone with oil to clean up flat bare metal like jaws and face plate.

Thanks, I was wondering what to use to clean up the dials.

Chuck jaws are a match to the body. It’s a Kobayashi chuck. I took it off and cleaned and lubed the internals. It’s like new inside. Really tight tolerances.
I noticed that one chuck key hole has an arrow pointing at it. Any idea what the significance of that is?
