Start by ditching 60 watt incandescent light bulbs for "100 Watt" or "150 watt" daylight LED's

I've got a 4 bulb cluster of 150 daylights in one white room and it's great.

Question for you pavt. For the CCGT-32.51 inserts what tool holders do you use. I'm having a helluva time trying to find something to fit those inserts for normal left and right hand turning. I can find round boring bar tool holders to suit but no square shanks.

    Thanks in advance.

not sure what pavt is using, but SCLCR1212H09 (SCLCL1212H09) will get you a 12mm/ 1/2" square holder for CCM/GT 32.5x inserts, like this one
SCLCR1212H09 12x100mm Cutter Turning Tool Holder For CCMT09T3 inserts | eBay

    the 09 part is the insert size. 09 = 32.5x whereas 06 = 22.5x.

Thanks Matt. I'll sit back and see what others post then I'll order something. Yours do seem perfect for a little 9 inch SB though. Order a glob of the CCGT32.51's and I should be set.

Aliexpress has boring, left, right and center holders with a box of ten inserts for super cheap. Maybe I'll give them a shot. Prolly will take a month for delivery though. I've been using the smaller 06 size inserts on my even smaller lathe (mostly 10x10mm holders) for the last 5 years or so. Use the CCGT inserts for most stuff (turning and boring) and materials (steel, stainless, alu, delrin, wood even!), but have a pack of cheapy CCMT inserts for nasty stuff, like rusty steel or interrupted cuts in steel. I've gone through 2 or 3 packs of CCGT inserts in that time and not even 1 pack of CCMT. I also have a couple of SCMCN holders for chamfering inside or outside edges.

Now I've expanded a bit with TCGT inserts as I got a cheap set of 12x12mm holders for not much money and the "only 2 usable tips, what the hell do I do with the other 2?" aspect of CCxT inserts has always bugged me for some reason.

I got my tool holders at LatheInserts.com SMALL LATHE TOOLING, AXA TOOLPOST, ccmt inserts, ccgt inserts

Note that you can use either style of insert in the same holder.
Here is an even better link: 5/8" SHANK LATHE TOOLING

These are high quality ToolMex (TMX) brand. I know the link says 5/8 but the tooling on that page is all 1/2. Somebody screwed up the website.

Basically any 1/2" shank tool sets probably have that style on Amazon or wherever.

Needless to say, I was absolutely thrilled! There's a lot more that I didn't post.

Look in your copy of How To Run A Lathe. It shows the procedure.

It will be a few days before I can get to it, but yes. Going for surgery in a few hours.

    Just a follow up.
I bought a set of left, right, and centre holders and a bunch of CCGT 09 aluminum inserts.
Thanks to all of you, these things cut 4140 like butter! Much less tool pressure, workload deflection and a much better surface finish than the TIN coated inserts designed for steel.

super cool! They don't last anywhere near as long as the CCMT inserts, but at 60c-$1 a tip it's not a big deal. Good for boring bars too, less push off = fewer spring passes needed and less chance of a tapered bore.
