Hello,

Thought I'd just say a quick hello and ask some questions regarding cross-compatibility of components from South Bend and clone lathes. As I'm UK based we have more Boxford lathes than SB, and I understand Australia have Hercus, but if I'm not mistaken the same imperial (3/4 8 TPI acme thread) half nuts are common to several of these lathes. Specifically, the SB 9", Hercus 9" and Boxford Model C (and probably more). Or maybe I am mistaken?

The reason I started looking at this was I'm restoring a Boxford Model C which has quite badly worn half nuts and was looking at repairing or replacing. I ended up making new studs that allowed me to adjust the half nuts, something that's not possible in the original design and allows half nut wear to be adjusted out. It's a good solution for the moment but maybe one day I'll replace the nuts or bore and re-line the threads.

This video might be useful if anyone wants to make a similar modification to the half-nut mechanism.
