Hi Folks,

I have recently com into possession of what appears to be a Southbend clone, Badging states supplied by DEMCO - gear cover states 4 1/2" bench lathe. the Serial is CUY149 - I have no Idea what the Y means, but C type and underbench drive.

Doing some research I came across lathes.co.uk which had a Sheraton page, however this does not look like a Sheraton headstock, so maybe an earlier demco import (imports around the time of the late 30's were horrendously expensive so). or maybe an early prototype, judging by the finish on the castings.

Someone at some stage did a shocking job of "repainting" with some greenish hammer tone straight over dirt/grease/etc and what appears to be southbend gray.

overall, apart from some surface rust under the paint it looks in pretty good nick. Bed has usual wear and looks to have casting faults in the headstock.

Any ideas of origin?
