    Default Repurposed Southbend 14

South Bend Model Fourteen Vertical Lathe Optical Lens Alignment Machine | eBay
Its an interesting use of the machine. At first glance I thought the photos were posted incorrectly.
It took me a moment or two to figure out what was going on here.
I'm on a mobile phone so its hard to add the photos for reference.

No, you got it correct, that is the lathe I modified many years ago when i worked at an optics manufacturing company. I had posted about it a couple of times in other threads, I never took pictures of it at the time, never thought i'd see it again. thanks for posting. Jim

How does the lubrication work in this orientation or was that a non concern? I’m not Familiar with this model or year SB14 so I don’t know, did it have oil cups?

If memory serves me, I packed the headstock with a very thick grease and relubed it once a year. Same with the gearbox. The lathe was used for boring and truing operations that involved very light cuts,it held up pretty well over the years. Jim
