I finally got my lathe running. I started cleaning it up and replacing the wicks for the oil. The back side(rear) of the headstock has close to .002 play. The shims do not appear to be laminated, the forward ones are. The spindle and bearing looked very clean to me. I would like to bring it into spec.. Where can I get the laminated shims? Should I run it as is?

Thanks Gary

Slightly loose for a late model 13 w/ bronzes sleeve/expanders.

But not what I would consider excessive if it is turning well.

Also very easy to get false readings too.

Running it will not hurt it, as long as nothing is getting hot, might use a bit more oil

I will just be using it as a hooby for parts and bushings on another project. I'm going through it mechanically, replacing the oiling wicks and such. Here's a picture of the spindle and sleeves. What you see of the sleeves is what they look like throughout.
