So i have been cleaning up my SB 9 1934 the headstock is ready to go back together but I am having an issue with the long wicks taking a walk as I reinstall the spindle this head takes the long flat wicks they just will not stay as I push in the spindle.

Never worked on a 1934, but on a late 1950’s 9” the wicks can be held down with a thin gauge wire thru the oiler hole.

top oiler with longitudinal felts parallel with the spindle ,

thread trick worked like a charm it needs to be in the rebuild manual and in a tip thread

There is the Ilion book though I am only using it for assembly, as I had torn it down before getting it just need a few tidbits out of the book. The headstock is together, bed was cleaned long ago before August last year , I can get to assembly now as my shoulder has recovered enough from surgery that the headstock can be lifted. I am a bicycle mechanic by trade, also auto, welder, fabricator, mason, carpenter.

I did not think there would be room for such a trick , I had passed over an earler idea of using some brass edm wire.
