I just acquired a south bend c9w10jr, cat no. 915-zc, 3 1/2’ bed. I am trying to get more history about the lathe but I am questioning the third digit on the serial number. The bottom part of the “8” looks home made-ish. Could it be a light hit and just filed in at the factory? Also, I can find lots of pictures of 9” c’s with horizontal motor mounted on benches, but this mount goes back to the floor. Is this original? Thanks for any input!
