I recently purchased a Logan 820, and in with the tooling, was what appears to be a South Bend compound rest. The previous owner said he believed it was from a piece of surveying equipment. It had a 3 1/2-8 male threaded adapter (common surveying equipment mounting thread) mounted on the compound with two small dowels. It is marked "C-100K" inside the compound. It does not appear that the compound was ever mounted on a lathe. Beside some minor surface rust and the two dowel holes, it seems to be like new, with next to no backlash. The surfaces still show the machining marks.
My question is, does anyone know if South Bend produced products for surveying? I know next to nothing about SB lathes. I have no use for it. Maybe I need to find a SB to mount it on.
