spur gear missing

First off i am still wet behing the ears when it comes to lathes and parts.
I recently purchased an old south bend 420y and just found out the 32 tooth stud gear is missing.

Best of my googling puts it at a 18dp (diameterpitch?) gear
My 64 tooth has a 1/2" bore and 3.66" od
64+2/3.66=18ish dp

Does this sound right? And does anyone know of a good source for a gear, best i could find on ebay was a 3d printed plastic gear, no idea how that would hold up.

And it is diametral pitch

Go to Amazon and look up Boston Gear. They often have stock on simple gears like this.

Boston Gear has been around since forever. I bet there's some on eBay too, just type in "18dp 32T" and see what you get.... there's usually loads of gears. Make sure you get one with 14.5 PA (pressure angle)

Apparently no one makes 18dp gears anymore, the only thing i could find on ebay or amazon was a 3d printed gear, i ordered one

You could probably make this one work -- 32 tooth GEAR South Bend LATHE TUMBLER Headstock gear train 5/8 boar 7/16 thick | eBay

There's other gears out there with different hole diameters that you could bush down. One guy has brand new gears intended for craftsman lathes with 3/4" bores, easy to bush those down to 1/2".

Squirted plastic is not going to last long .... may as well start looking for a durable replacement now.

I made 2 runs of 20 tpi on some 304ss with my new plastic gear, seems to be working fine for now
