Stupid Question: Was "South Bend" cast into the beds of the lathes?

I recently acquired a South Bend 9" lathe. In trying to determine its exact vintage, I have seen several catalog illustrations where it is shown that "South Bend" was cast into the bed of lathes (as shown in attached picture from 1938 catalog). Mine does not have "South Bend" cast into the bed.

Was the catalog picture just an artist's rendering? I have tried looking at other photographs, but I haven't been able to tell anything conclusively.

Thank you,
Nicholas

I have two sitting back to back in my basement. The 9” sn125359 has a plack, the 13 sn142442 has 13” SOUTH BEND cast into the bed. These machines were built at almost the same time. So it’s not only some years, but some machines. They made 750,000 of them. Go figure.

I have a 9" South Bend horizontal drive lathe that has "South Bend" cast into the top of web between the ways. I believe it is a 1947 model and I understand that this casting pattern was used for a very short time.
