So funny story, I could not get the pin for the traverse gear out so to the local machine shop it went. Guy subsequently put it in a press supporting the apron on its ends and broke the casting.brokencasting.jpgLong story short everything has to come off the old casting including the hand wheel. The big side large pin.jpg and small side of the taper pin was easy enough to locate but like most on this machine must have been installed with a sledge. Filing and hammering, filing and hammering has now resulted in being unsure where the pin is. Anyone have a good way to find the thing in order that I can stop filing away the wheel?smallpin.jpg

That looks like the remains of a grease zerk not a taper pin. Are you sure that handle is pinned in place? Take a picture of the front side of the apron. Is it possible there's a circlip or a nut holding the handle to the shaft?

thats just a clever trick of the camera from smacking it with a punch to try to get an outline of the small end to show through on the other side

Spray the suspect area with blue layout dye, then shoot it with Brake-Kleen. The outline of the pin in the handle should pop out like magic.
