Like many of us with older South Bend lathes, the brass oil plugs and dauber in the tail stock are missing. I guess I was fortunate. My circa ‘43 10L Heavy was only missing one plug and the dauber. I’d made some replacements, sans the nice round ball at the end, and they were functional, but just not the same as the originals. So, decided to do something about it.
Came across Tubalcain’s Youtube videos, specifically #118 where he fabricated a form tool to cut the 3/8” ball on the end of the tail stock’s dauber. Shoot, I can do that, and did. I went one step further. I made one end for the dauber’s ball, and the other end for the oil plug balls.
It’s basically finished. Just getting my collective together so I can heat treat it, then we’ll put it to use.
