How I hated those things in my younger years working on bridgeports! They were always glaring in your eyes or burning the shit out of you when you inadvertently touched them.

Ah, but the shade makes such a nice gong sound when you bang your head against it, and burn your forehead. An LED bulb would eliminate the burning hazard ...

The LED bulbs last a lot longer too. Also for several lamps, I've bought 220V bulbs and wired them into the machine for the operators who always forget to turn them off at the end of the day.
