That sure looks a lot like a 0.0001" Dial Indicator, not a 0.0005" Mic...

uhhm, no that's a universal bevel protractor.or planer gage.

and what's a .0005 micrometer . i have many .0001 mics
and a few .001 mics, but never in my machinist life
have i encountered the much underseen and obviously
underappreciated .0005 grad mic range.

is that version direct reading...or some type of modified
vernier configuration?

i prefer the SM-57 , or a multi-pattern large diaphragm condenser . an omni-pattern diffuses
directional phase issues and sounds more natural.
the shure dynamics sound lovely without being
peaky.

Oh, geez-I see it now...

It's pretty clever how they built a 0.0005" Mic into that 0.0001" Dial Indicator body...
