These were posted last month along with some other collets. I’ve reduced the price and hope to see them gone. These are high-quality, American-made collets, as “new” as the day they were made over 50 years ago, sometime before 1963.

All are exactly as shown in the photo, in their original grease and the brown plastic South Bend containers with clear lids. I’ve unwrapped one to show what they are like.

I can get 7 collets into the small flat rate boxes ($7.20) and about 24 into the medium flat rate boxes ($13.65). Please don’t ask for other mailing options; I’m not a business, just a guy.

I'd like 0.060, 0.086, 0.099, 0.112, 0.138, and 0.164. All are listed @ $10 each, so that's $60 + $7.20 for the small flat rate. I'll send a PM.

Not to cast water on your sale, but be aware that SB collets have slightly bigger draw tube threads than do not fit Hardinges. I have a set that came with the SB lathe that work fine in the SB but will not fit the Hardinge.

All I can say is, I have two Hardinge indexers, an HV-4 and an HV-4n, and the collets fit both perfectly, both in the threads and the body diameter. Were you interested in buying, or just an innocent bystander?

After pending sales, I will have the following left: #7, #25, #27, #31, and #32.

Just an innocent bystander. Somewhere I read that Hardinge changed the dimensions of the collets, not by much, maybe a few thousands. When I try a SB collet, it threads fine for about three-four turns, then thightens up so I cannot turn it. True for all the SB's. The SB collets were made in the 1950's. Hardinge collets work fine. I just wanted to prevent hard feelings should people buy the collets and find they do not fit. If you have a SB lathe, they work great!

Tom

Interesting . . . but these screw on just fine with my Hardinge drawbars. And the fit on the body is very nice.

If rklopp verifies his sale, I'll still have a 3/32, 7/32, 9/32, 13/32, and 15/32 left.

I had the same experience when I had my TM. Might depend on the year of manufacture of the Hardinge. Either way I was able to make them work.

I received my collets today. Thank you very much. I felt badly opening the packages, because the collets are like the proverbial cosmoline-covered jeep untouched in a crate in the warehouse at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. The collets seem to have been made for a military contract pre-1963. I have not tried them for drawbar fit, but I don't expect problems because I have a mix of other South Bend and Hardinge collets that fit fine.
