I am in need of an odd size taper sleeve. The Sheldon EXL spindle is not a 5MT nor is it a 4.5MT. It is an odd size and I am looking for this size to a 2MT taper if anyone might have one to sell or know of one.
Thanks-Howard

Yes I have considered making one but don't have an idea as to how to do it and have it come out as good as one I may buy. In the Sheldon Yahoo group people are talking about cutting down a #5MT and using this?
Thanks-Howard

The taper that Sheldon used on their early spindles is called a short 5mt.They're easy enough to make. I posted a series of photos in a folder titled "Shop made spindle adapter" in the Yahoo Sheldon group of the steps I took to make a number of different adapters including mt2, mt3, and 5C collet adapter for my 1945 Sheldon.

Thanks.

The yahoo group is dead. Go to Sheldon.io.groups for the latest. That drawing for the adapter is in the files listing once you get approved as a new member.
Yeah, it's not a true 4-1/2 MT. If it existed, it would be a 4-3/4 MT. The adapter for the South Bend lathe will not work, the taper is different, so be careful buying a used one out there. I found this out with my lathes. And I still don't have a MT adapter for my lathe. Do have the collet adapter, that's all I need.
