Hey all,
I have some spare 1.5 hp 3 phase motors that need to be used. I have a guy needing a rpc to drive a 1hp Clausing 4914 lathe. I have tried to look up the limitations and realize that the 1.5 hp doesn’t obey the 2 to 1 rule but do you think this would work to drive this lathe. It is for a hobbiest and won’t be used heavily or be under hard loads. I have built a few rpc before so I am not a complete newbie but also not a master electrician. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Idlers are additive from what I understand. If the 1.5 hp turns out to be inadequate, you could start the 1.5 hp motor RPC, the start a second 1.5 hp idler for something close to a 3 HP converter. The converter would need to be balanced when both are running.

There are others on the board that are FAR more qualified to comment on this than I am.
