In doing the research for my RPC build, I came across the product literature for Phase-O-Matic static converters that states you can easily create an RPC by hooking their static converter to any 3 phase motor.

This makes sense... it just creates an RPC with no run caps to balance the phase voltages.

What intrigued me was that the literature stated that you had to use a 3600 rpm motor (i.e. a 2 pole 3 phase motor).

Does anyone know why this would be?

I've pulled the string on Google and all I can find is forum posts that claim 1750 rpm motors are preferred because they are quieter.
