Just picked up a new to me Cleveland 2U horizontal mill. Came wired 440, switched spindle motor and coolant pump motor to low voltage (as I am typing this, I realized that there is probably a motor in the knee as well?) Anyway, after the original control transformer bit the dust (error with my probe leads...) found another suitable 240v to 24v transformer.
Machine has the same controls as most German machines I have had from this era, 1969 I believe, I am fairly familiar with them.
Issue I am having is the spindle starter will not latch. I have 25v at all places I should, the inching switch will start knee motor/pump and jog spindle. Start button on knee will start knee and spindle, but spindle starter will not latch. All components of that starter are visually in great shape.
I usually have no issues with this stuff, but this one has me confused a bit.
Some wiring looks out of factory position a bit.
Knee and spindle turn on with same start button, I believe they are supposed to turn on together?
The second to last picture shows the wire I question its location. Never seen a wire there on these starters and the terminal crimped on it is not for there either, I was really happy to see original quality switch gear when I opened it up.
Now I am really curious as to the knee motor/whatever is in there, or is it hydraulic?
