Can anyone tell me which wires go where, Ive scoured Bodines site to no avail.
There are 2 connections on the DC Controller marked A1 and A2 and 4 leads on the motor ???
ThanksIMG_8296.jpgIMG_8295.jpg

Green yellow is ground, and you will need to ohm out the 2 pairs, the 2 that ring 0 ohms will be a1 a2 , the other 2 leads will be 20 to 100 ohms that will be f1 f2, your controller is for a PM DC motor and you have a wound field motor...need to add a full wave bridge rec to the control...Phil

Thanks for the info.

If two of the leads are fatter (appear to be red and yellow in the photo) these will be the armature leads. Field current draw is much lower.

+1 As little as 10% or 15% "much" as-in 1.4 A Field for a 12+ A Armature at FLA, typical straight-shunt practice, even if the field is operated at only half the Armature Voltage.

Make sure Field Power source and its wiring is reliable.

Loss of Field at full Armature current can over-speed a DC motor beyond its safe physical RPM limits.

This is "usually" only a real worry when there is no significant load. even a gearbox load, and sometimes a fan, can hold it down.

Speed can go high, but torque is low with a weak field (typically the remanent magnetic field left in the iron). So a reasonable load for the motor's power will avoid that. It's still a good thing to have "field loss" protection on any significant size of motor.

It's a "remember, but don't live in fear" thing.
