Just picked up a 1440 ,3 phase Motor 7.5HP was wired to 440v , changed it to 220v , my house is single phase only.
my question is with the reduced voltage what size Phase-A-matic converter do I need ,seem to remember you reduce the volts the HP of the motor goes down. This Lathe will be used for light use in my garage,
I have a 1200PMD converter on it . Turned on once and then nothing ?
Any suggestions.
Thanks Peter

Remove the word "Jet" from the title. Import names are not allowed.

I had a Phase-A-Matic once. Expensive. I have a low opinion on them. I returned it and built my own converter.

The HP stays the same with the voltage drop, the amperage increases. Just Google for Ohm's law and you will find the formulas.

Imports are allowed as long as they are commercial grade machinery, a Jet made in China is considered a hobby machine. Since it is a manual machine, no need for a high end balanced converter. Any rotary converter rated for 7.5 HP motors will be fine.

OK we know the drill here. Single phase small home shop chinese import...... Yeah, this one gets closed.
