I think as a young teenager I saw a motor like this on an oil burner for the hot zinc tank at a galvanizing factory. Looking at it's terminal block, and the two internal switches, I am curious what this motor is for. Any help would be appreciated.

That is a Motorized Potentiometer or MOP. Think of a large dimmer (the old kind) but instead of a knob to move the wiper and change the resistance, there is a tiny little gear motor that does it. So to change it one way or the other, you close external contacts to operate the motor in Fwd or Rev, then there are limit switches at either end of travel to keep it from going too far.

Now this is done electronically because that is much easier and less expensive, but when implanted electronically it is still called a MOP function. You have the real deal.
