I am in need of two 3kW servo motors and drives. Digkey has one set in stock for approx $3k. They list 40 weeks lead time for the second set. I don't have 40 weeks to wait.
I found the same parts Aliexpress. Including shipping, the price is only 40% of Digikey's price. They claim to have 19 in stock. The parts are in China.
Shipping is per Fedex IP. I realize that a tarriff would be due on the parts and it is not included in the shipping price.
How does the tarriff work? The harmonized tarriff schedules are not definitive on servo motors and drives. It looks like the tarriff may be around 3.5% but I'm not sure. Does Fedex notify me of the tarriff? Do my parts languish in customs somewhere until I find them somehow?
What other pitfalls are there from using Aliexpress and Fedex IP?
