just purchased a Romi 13-5 lathe and I can’t for the life you me get it to run on 230v 3 phase. I change the wiring in the Motor to low voltage. What am I missing

Assuming the control voltage is 110, you need to rewire the main motor, and the coolant pump motor if any, rewire the control transformer for the proper incoming voltage, and adjust or replace the motor overloads for the proper current. Also, some lathe controls like the LeBlond servo shift controls are phase sensitive and won't work properly if wired out of phase (direction of rotation wrong).

What swarfmeister said. I used to install these machines and from memory I'm pretty sure there is a control transformer. If that is not rewired it will only put out about 60VAC, not enough to pull the motor contactors in. Also the overloads will need to be doubled in size or they will keep tripping out. I think the coolant pump is 3 phase as well, rewire that for 230V.
