I recently purchased an old JA Fay & Egan 400 lathe that I am trying to get back working. It has a 4 speed 2 winding motor with 14 leads going to a drum switch.
My question is how would I wire it to a VFD. From doing alotbof reading on this forum as well as looking at the schematic that I could wire it to the higher speed winding and adjust the frequency down to slow the motor.
I did attempt to use a static phase converter wired to the original cutler hammer starter but it trips the overload circuit on the starter after about 20 or 30 seconds of run time.
Any thoughts on the best way to approach this set up? I have provided some attachments below to help answer questions.
