1898 W/S USNO Transit

Hey YA'll,
So if this critter is graduated in "7200" arc seconds, is it fair to assume that its graduations are mil radians ?

I do not know the answer to your question. Hell, I do not understand your question !
But I do know this: A key to the success of W / S in the early days was the ability to make a machine that could graduate a scale accurately enough to beat most all others. I caught a glimpse of that machine in 1972, just prior to it being shipped to the Smithsonian in DC. I wish I had paid closer attention: I have never been able to find out more about it.
