My boss is concidering an Anderson Stratos
CNC router. I'm wondering if anyone can share
there experience with CNC routers regarding
accuracy. I try to do my woodworking like my
metal machining (DRO's on our wood working equiptment). Can a router be as accurate as
a CNC machining center?

.001 is VERY accurate in wood, and can only be achieved in a VERY rigid setup...

and .001 is pretty easy to get in a CNC router.

specifiy ground ball screws, and you can get that

thanks, If we get it I'm hoping to be able to
work some aluminum parts. Could I expect +/-.002
in Aluminum which would suffice for the applications I'm thinking of.

Thanks for the replies, If the Anderson can do what the Haas does, I'm all set.

Any one here have experience with Enroute 3 CAD\CAM package.

The Haas has a servo fitted spindle for tapping. I very much doubt the Anderson has that. It's designed for woodworking. The HAAS appears to be dual purpose.

Of course, it wouldn't be too hard to add a Tapmatic head to the Anderson.

we have a small mulicam. they killed 6 spindles in the first year. buying cheap e.m.s and trying to mill .180 thic alum at 600 IPM. they also decided to use straight up veggie oil as coolant now the machine is covered with a oil and wood crust, it was a good machine.

the brainiacks called Mechanical Engineers. they use .25 and .375 E.M.s and they use collet holders only and its a high speed spindle but they said that getting the tooling ballanced was too expensive, so they spent who knows how much on 6 spindles and the machine has had to be stripped down twice due to the oil they used
