Hello,

The wood shop teacher at our local middle school where my wife works has purchased some blanks for the kids to make duck calls. The shop is equipped with those ubiquitous little Jet bench top wood lathes. The teacher is new, very young and has limited (but some) exposure to turning. She's not sure what to hold these blanks with. I'm thinking an expanding mandrel but googling it hasn't lead me to much. any ideas, or sources?

Thanks much,

They could turn some tapered wooden mandrels. (very slight taper) Then just jam the blanks on. The mandrel could be parallel except for a bit at the end. The mandrels are something it might be better for the teacher to make ahead.
