I Have a vintage Haag 16" metal spinning lathe that has been used for wood turning. I am cleaning it up and would like to get some recommendations for the oil used in the bearings.
The lathe is quite rugged and I believe it dates from the the late 20's early 30's(checked on OWWM.org, no luck) It came with a 2 speed 3hp 3ph GE motor(toast). I plan on running it with a 3hp 3 ph motor tied to a VFD for speed control. It has sizeable oil cups for front and rear bearings. I would assume max speed at 3500 rpms.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

ED

Surprised no one has offered any advice. You might try posting on OWWM, lots of opinions there

I'm pretty ignorant, but I'd probably use a light spindle oil for those speeds. My big Oliver patternmakers lathe uses grease, but top speed is 1800 rpm.
