Episode 9: Top 3 Things to Look For When Selecting a Vendor
Working with the right vendor can really make the difference for machine shops. How to choose the right one? Here are some words of wisdom from Ian Sandusky.
Having the right supplier network is almost as important as having a wide customer network. Your supplier network has the power to determine how quickly you can turn around a job or the kind of pricing you can offer and other important factor that can make or break your business.
Finding a good vendor, however, is not an easy task and there are quite a few things to consider when making the decision. Ian Sandusky from let’s machine, shared with us what he considers the three most important characteristics that a vendor should have.
The first thing he looks for in a vendor is customer service. Finding a supplier that is responsive and can help you out when in need, whether you need to quote a job quickly or have a problem with your machine, is key to keep your business productive and efficient. The second most important thing is knowing that your vendor has your best interest in mind. Too many times suppliers put profit over what their customer really needs. A good vendor should know that satisfying the customer’s needs is the basis for a healthy, profitable relationship that can benefit both sides. Last but not least, pricing. Although less important than the first two features, finding a vendor that can supply quality material at a decent price is key to keep your machine shop profitable.
These are the main things to consider when choosing a new vendor or reevaluating your relationship with an existing one.
