The real question is whether you could mount a triple turret of 16" guns on a 72" Bullard. Given that 16 x 3 is only 48, I say yes, with room left over for a fourth barrel if you wished!
On my second ship we had a King VTL that would turn either 13' or 14' (cant remember which now).
We never had a job for it while I was aboard.
There was also a pair of Bullards - 3' and 5'. They got used a lot.
I read about the Missouri, the ring was about 300” diameter. Might have been more, 29’8” sticks in my head, big I think is the word, must have been a bigger vtl to deal with it I think however I’d like to have seen photos of these things being made!
We had a similar sized turret on the continuous casters in work, it was about 2000 tons spinning round in a few seconds, amazing the first time I saw it, little less after 30 years

I would very much be interested in knowing which ship my 22" reed prentice lathe came off of, assuming it came off a ship. it has the navy anchor stamped in the end of the bed and looks very much like the one shown here, just a bit bigger.
