A nice set of Lufkin #77A radius gages. But the story is the receipt. 10/23/1946. Grimes, an employee of Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego purchased this radius gage set along with a Lufkin 926 tape measure, Lufkin 900 planer gage, Lufkin 1912 1-2” micrometer, an indicator, and a Starrett 117D punch for all up $35.95 to be deducted from pay in one sum.
Even more fascinating is the supplier: Western Metal Supply Co. Now folks from S CA (not me, I from OH) know about that but if you follow baseball ( which is how I know of WMS) then you’ve seen the old Western Metal Supply building that is built into San Diego’s Petco park left field.
So who was/is Grimes ? No idea. Did they stick with the trade? Returning GI or did Rosie decide to stop riveting and make a career of tool work? Lost to time.
