Smoothbore 22?

If you have problems with squirrels and neighbors, just throw handfulls of nuts and rasins into your neighbor's yard. Then maybe shoot them with a smoothbore 22 just for kicks. The squirrels that is, not the neighbors. Squirrel is pretty tasty. Neighbor not so much.

This is America, so jump the neighbor's fence, shoot the squirrels, and then sue the neighbors for your having to witness the horror that occurred on their property.

Turn the dog loose (if you have one), they usually will drive animals away from the garden.

Ask your barber for a bag of hair. Spread the hair clippings around the perimeter of the garden. Animals think it's a "killing field" and give it a wider birth.

Sling shots are usually legal anywhere inside the city. You better practice - a lot - if you want to get good.

.22 CB Shorts are quiter than a pellet rifle from a bolt action .22. The actual impact of the bullet is louder than the muzzle report. Otherwise known as a gallery round. The hammer drop and impact are all you really hear. Very accurate too.

BTW - Birds are very delicate creatures, even .22 birdshot is liable to kill them.
