Thanks for all the info.... I went to a friends machine shop, we were going to turn the shaft down and fit it with a sleeve. It seemed like alot of work if there's a chance to find a new motor for cheap....I have thought about the VFD, but it's another expense. The point that A Pmech brought up about a home hobby shop is correct. I am not going to be drilling all day through hard material, mainly mild steel and perhaps stainless. All of which has never been more than 1/4" over the past 5 years. SO, having said that, I think switching to single phase may be the cheap and quick way to go. BUT... I am near the time in which I am looking for a milling machine, so the thought of upgrading to a 3 phase set-up may be the ticket. QUESTION.... If this happens, can I run the mill and the drill from the same phase convertor? (one machine at at time) I assume that most mills are 3 phase....
