Bought some stuff a number of years back and among the stuff was a bunch of these (I think) Bakelite collet cases. Most have covers and each has the SB logo molded into the bottom. Fifteen of them, each holds a single 5c collet. I have no real need for these but it seems a shame to toss them. If...
Found this 31/32", 8W collet lurking around my shop while cleaning up. I have no idea where I got it, but it is of no use to me. I know 8W's are not so common these days, so hate to have it sitting around here doing nothing. There are a few dings in the threads, but nothing anyone cant't clean...
You can download or read the book here if you want to make your own (project 130, page 163) :

This is one way to do this. It effectively acts like a long wireless Ethernet cable. Not super cheap, but effective. I installed one of these at a place bridging a distance of maybe 900 feet a few years back. At the remote building I installed an off the shelf wifi access point. It's still...
As an aside, if you would like a decent scientific calculator for your computer, Microsoft offers a good one you can download for free. Some details here:

Does anyone know of a source for the "curtain" mesh material used at some trap and skeet fields to contain the lead shot? I stumbled upon a reference to a material made by a company called "Hope Global" on an NSSF site but beyond that my google skills...
As a few others have noted, there are lots of ways to do this. When I was asked to do this a while back where the distance was too far for a wired connection and trenching for a wire was not an option in any event, I ended up using this kit:
WiFi Bridge Kit - C. Crane Company (800) 522-8863...
I would second (actually I guess, "Third") the suggestion to read the Gingerly lathe book. As a matter of fact, the opening chapter of the book starts by posing the question of how the first lathes were developed given that there surely was a time when there were no lathes.
I bought it years...
Mostly an academic question really, for me anyhow. I have one surface plate that resides in my shop that has pretty marginal temperature control. It serves just fine for my needs which are all non-critical enough that I might have a hard time telling if my surface plate had a film residue on it...
Dumb question maybe, but is there something particular that makes surface plate cleaner, well, Surface Plate Cleaner? I can understand not leaving a film, but would not something like alcohol do just as well?
Email them from their website, here:
Grob, Inc. - Industrial Band Saws And Cold Rolled Metal Products
I emailed them a year or two back to ask if they had schematics for an old Grob blade welder that I picked up. An actual real honest-to-goodness human being replied promptly with an attached...
