Trans. Specs.

"Can anyone out there give me the specs. for the large trans. that fits in the sliding drawer"

285-0-285, (about 300-0-300, unloaded).

Certainly enough capacity for a 3 *or* a 5 HP, 230 volt motor, so, say, about 4 KVA.

Thanks Peter but i'm not electrically inclined to a great extent. What does 285-0-285 mean in laymans terms. If I have very specific diagrams and terms I don't have to much of a problem, otherwise I'm stumped.BTW, I'm attempting to build an AAP for a 71/2HP 1165 RPM motor,3PH of course.I'm not making much progress with rotory or static converters due to the age and RPM of this motor.I also have access to a Graseby Volkmann 15Kva VFD,but I know nothing about how this beast works.

"300-0-300" means that the transformer puts out 300 volts on either side of the center tap.

Another way of specifying this would be "600 V C.T.".

One reason for the "300-0-300" terminology: often in practice there are additional taps for, say, supplying power to a (usually negative) bias supply.

For example, the transformer might be specified as 300-50-0-300, and the "50-0" section of the transformer would be utilized in a half-wave (negative) bias supply, whereas the "300-0" and "0-300" sections would be utilized in a full-wave plate supply.
