I have come across a bridgeport that has a spindle diffrent from the customary R-8. I am hoping someone can tell me what tooling style is required for this sindle. I have attached pictures of the taper opening as well as the nut used to retain the tooling. The dimension between the two drive dogs is 1.35" and the dimension across the taper at the large end is 1.2"

That was made by TSD-Universal

formally of Frankenmuth, MI. As the other fellow said, it's either a 200 or 300 series quick-change. You can still get parts and tooling for those.

basically if you take the QC off it ..everthing that is 30 taper will fit with a draw bar.

the tools that will fit with the quick change (thats using without draw bar) are called various names by various people ..who at various times get it right and wrong..so don't take their word for it .

30 international
int30
30int
nmtb 30
qc30
30qc
bristol erickson 30
be30
and even iso 30

when looking at ebay pics of one ..you got to have one in your hand ...they are instantly recognisable there after .

It looks to me like it's a 30 taper Erickson Quick Change spindle and it's in very good condition, apparently.

The 30 taper is about 1.25 inches at the widest point of the taper. Looks like a good match to me.

If I hadn't already acquired one for my own needs, I'd offer to swap a good R8 spindle for it if you prefer R8.

R8 is the most inexpensive type to get tooling for but there are things to be
said for having positive drive on the toolholder rather than relying on friction to
hold the collet from turning, (coupled with a tiny set screw in the R8 slot)
and the quick change feature itself.

I spent a fair amount of money to tool up to use my quick change spindle.

Hi as other have said its 30 int
My mill has a 30 int spindle but with out the quick change
so I modified a 40 int to 30 int quick change reducer to a 30 int 30 int & its ok for light stuff where you are changing tool frequently saves messing with the draw bar
